My journey to health and happiness

Progress! March 29, 2014

So, every time I think to myself….I need to update my blog….life gets in the way.  So, here is a quick update.

Still on track.  Down 58.6 pounds as of yesterday morning, undressed, before coffee, after using the bathroom (hey, gotta make every ounce count, right?)

Still using Nutrisystem, but not for dinner.  Making/ eating dinners on my own.

Going to the gym at least 5 out of 7 days a week.  Usually more.  My typical workout is 20 minutes on the elliptical (Interval setting, level  2), then 20 minutes on the Arc Trainer, and then 20 minutes weight lifting (I do a different body part or parts each day, rotating through weekly and increasing weight as I am able to do 3 sets of 12 reps easily).

People are noticing, clothes are too big, I have already gone through my closet, boxing up some clothes.  I am down from a size 26/28 to a size 18 currently.

I am still not taking many pictures.  That is my personal issue.  I am also still not seeing the difference everyone else is seeing.  I am working on that.

So, in a nutshell, that is me and my progress.  I am proud of myself, I am working really really REALLY hard.

How are you doing????

Plantar Fasciitis Contraption March 1, 2014

Here it is folks.  New contraption for my aching foot and heel. It is meant to keep my foot flexed in order to allow the foot to heal in a flexed as opposed to relaxed position which mimics walking.  You can read more about plantar fasciitis at many different websites, just google it. Basically it is a pain in the heel and bottom of the foot that is more intense when you are just getting up from sleeping or after sitting.   I’ve also tried to really limit, almost eliminate any type of cardio that impacts my foot and heel.  I am still trying to work through the Couch to 5K program, but am going slow, because it does cause some discomfort especially the day after, etc.  I am am supposed to wear this all night to sleep, but honestly I cannot find a way to get comfortable.   So I am trying to wear it when  I am sitting down during the day, after a workout, and I do try and wear it when I go to bed, but typically I wear it for a few hours and then take it off because it keeps waking me up.

Anyone else out out there have  plantar fasciitis? Anything you can recommend to help? Ever worn a contraption like this?  Something better? Worse? Talk to me!

Elliptical Success February 4, 2014

So, a few weeks ago I posted about a problem with the elliptical machine.  At that time, I could only do a few minutes without excruciating pain in my quads.  I thought (notice I said thought) that the problem was with the machine.  I my friends on here, and also spoke to  a co-worker who is also a personal trainer for suggestions and help. One question he asked me is if I was properly warming up my muscles prior to beginning the elliptical machine?   I was not.

So the next day at the gym, I did about 15 minutes of cardio on the treadmill before trying the elliptical.  It worked.  I was able to move to ten minutes.  Nothing earth shattering, but improvement.

Then last week, after pushing myself…minute by minute…day by day….this is what I had to show for it:

Elliptical Success!!

Yes folks, that is 30 minutes of sheer elliptical madness you are seeing there!  4.46 miles!  Now we are only on level 1 mind you, but remember, back here “Elliptical Issues“, less than a month ago…I couldn’t even do 5 minutes!

So, what does this mean?

1.  I am stronger than I think.

2.  I can do anything when I put my mind to it.

3.  Baby steps work.

4.  The elliptical is hard!!

5.  This has been a huge source of motivation to me, and I am proud of myself.

Elliptical Issues January 6, 2014

So a question to my fellow bloggers and followers who might be able to help me with this issue….I am having a serious issue with the elliptical machine. Meaning as soon as I get on it, I have a tremendous burning in my thighs (and not in an 80’s rock star kind of good way)

I am on the lowest level, moving slow, and literally after 1 minute my thighs begin to burn to the point of not being able to continue after a few minutes. I even googled it and found one other person who has the same issues as me. One person??? In the world???

Here is my other thigh burning elliptical buddy:

Like her, I can do the bike and treadmill, for a while….hills, incline, etc. yet I see people who are heavier than me, older than me jump on and go like lightening without even breaking a sweat.

Help?? What am I doing wrong??
