Hi everyone! It seems that all of the bloggers I follow regarding healthy living and eating are weighing in on the Biggest Loser Finale where Rachel Frederickson went from an obese 260 pounds to a semi-unhealthy 105 pounds.
My daughter, who is an avid watcher of the show, and is 13 years old called me on the phone (she was watching a day later) while I was at the gym and said, “Mom did you see Rachel? She is 105 pounds! That is very unhealthy. I am 13 and I weigh 100!” First of all I am proud of her to recognize that skinny does not always equal healthy. Secondly, I wonder what all the other 13 year old girls who aren’t that “skinny” are thinking? Or teenagers? Or adults for that matter. This is not normal. This is not healthy.
Personally, I think she looks amazing in the red dress, about 45 pounds heavier and healthier! I remember when I went to my doctor’s office this past fall, ready to make a commitment to gastric bypass surgery. I was 312 pounds. He asked what weight I wanted to get down to and I answered 165, which was the weight I was when I got married at 22. He chuckled and said, “Lisa that was 20 years ago. If you set a goal weight of 200 pounds, that will be great! You will look great, feel great and be very healthy”.
The looks on Bob and Jillian’s faces have gone viral.
Jillian kept saying, “Oh my God, oh my God.” Now no one will respond. Obviously The Biggest Loser is going to have to make a statement about this. Maybe rules need to change?
Please my weight loss friends, please know this is not normal, this is not healthy, and this is not what we are…a number on a scale. We are so very much more than that.
