Redefining Lisa One Step at a Time

My journey to health and happiness

Beautiful Day for a Run March 31, 2014

Filed under: Personal — redefininglisa @ 8:22 pm

Friday after class I needed to work out, but it was so nice outside I did not want to be in the gym.  I often drive past a trail while I am driving to school, so I decided to see if I could find a place to park and walk/run while enjoying the great outdoors.

I wound up on the Hoodlebug Trail  and it is a fairly easy trail (even though my fitbit said I climbed 17 flights of stairs in 2.5 miles, the incline was hardly noticeable). It crosses a few bridges, runs alongside a stream and overall was a beautiful place.

I really like like finding new places like this for my run/walks.  I take in the scenery and my surroundings while I’m working out.

Here is the run down of my 40 minutes:

Some New Food Suggestions March 30, 2014

Filed under: Personal — redefininglisa @ 10:45 am

I spend a lot of time running around.  Between my job, my kids, and being in school myself, I find myself not only in my car a lot, but also away from my home. This makes eating a problem for me.  Right now, I almost always have food with me.  I pack my lunch bag with healthy foods I know I can eat.  My go-to’s are:

baby carrots

hummus

greek yogurt

sparkling ice water

bananas

Now for dinner, I have been on a cauliflower and  cabbage kick.  Here are the recipes I use a lot:

Also, I  have learned to copy Subway’s chopped salad including banana peppers, olives, and pickles.  Lemme tell you, do that and you don’t even need dressing!

What about eating out?

Here  are some of my stand-by’s:

Get a side of honey mustard dressing to dip it in….YUM!

Salads 2014-03-29 13-28-25

This is delicious!  Here is the website pic and below is my pic of my actual salad.  Pretty darn close.  It was awesome and I seriously didn’t even need dressing.

Also, one last idea…Sheetz wrapz.  Load up on the veggies, perhaps some grilled chicken.  Low cal and delicious!

Any good low cal fast foods you use as go-to meals on the run?  I would love to hear all about it!

Progress! March 29, 2014

So, every time I think to myself….I need to update my blog….life gets in the way.  So, here is a quick update.

Still on track.  Down 58.6 pounds as of yesterday morning, undressed, before coffee, after using the bathroom (hey, gotta make every ounce count, right?)

Still using Nutrisystem, but not for dinner.  Making/ eating dinners on my own.

Going to the gym at least 5 out of 7 days a week.  Usually more.  My typical workout is 20 minutes on the elliptical (Interval setting, level  2), then 20 minutes on the Arc Trainer, and then 20 minutes weight lifting (I do a different body part or parts each day, rotating through weekly and increasing weight as I am able to do 3 sets of 12 reps easily).

People are noticing, clothes are too big, I have already gone through my closet, boxing up some clothes.  I am down from a size 26/28 to a size 18 currently.

I am still not taking many pictures.  That is my personal issue.  I am also still not seeing the difference everyone else is seeing.  I am working on that.

So, in a nutshell, that is me and my progress.  I am proud of myself, I am working really really REALLY hard.

How are you doing????

Plantar Fasciitis Contraption March 1, 2014

image

Here it is folks.  New contraption for my aching foot and heel. It is meant to keep my foot flexed in order to allow the foot to heal in a flexed as opposed to relaxed position which mimics walking.  You can read more about plantar fasciitis at many different websites, just google it. Basically it is a pain in the heel and bottom of the foot that is more intense when you are just getting up from sleeping or after sitting.   I’ve also tried to really limit, almost eliminate any type of cardio that impacts my foot and heel.  I am still trying to work through the Couch to 5K program, but am going slow, because it does cause some discomfort especially the day after, etc.  I am am supposed to wear this all night to sleep, but honestly I cannot find a way to get comfortable.   So I am trying to wear it when  I am sitting down during the day, after a workout, and I do try and wear it when I go to bed, but typically I wear it for a few hours and then take it off because it keeps waking me up.

Anyone else out out there have  plantar fasciitis? Anything you can recommend to help? Ever worn a contraption like this?  Something better? Worse? Talk to me!
